The Basse Area Council of the Republic of The Gambia has established a sister city relationship with the Sovereign State of SHRIKAILASA, the ancient Enlightenment Civilization Nation and first Nation of Hindus.
This partnership highlights the shared values between both regions, including cultural understanding, religious freedom, human rights, eradication of hunger, youth leadership, and holistic approaches to health and education initiatives.

Located in the eastern part of The Gambia, the Basse Area Council spans both the northern and southern parts of the country, sharing borders with Senegal to the east, Kuntaur Area Council to the northwest, and Janjanbureh to the southwest. Home to approximately 230,000 residents, Basse’s economy centers on wholesale and retail trade, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.
The region benefits from alluvial soil throughout most of its territory, creating ideal conditions for rice cultivation. Peanuts serve as the primary cash crop in this predominantly warm and dry area, contributing significantly to the local economy.
This sister city arrangement marks another important milestone in USK Gambia’s growing network of relationships within The Gambia, creating new avenues for cultural exchange, humanitarian collaboration, and community development based on shared principles and mutual respect.
