In the increasingly interconnected world of humanitarian work, no organization can function as an island. At The United States of KAILASA charity in The Gambia, we recognize that meaningful impact comes through partnership, collaboration, and humble service.
Since establishing our presence in Santosu Village, Brufut, we’ve made it a priority to build relationships with existing organizations, community leaders, and governmental bodies. Our approach is not to duplicate services but to identify gaps and complementary opportunities where Hindu principles of service can make a unique contribution.
“Collaboration is embedded in our constitutional framework,” notes Ma Nithya Kalyananda Asogan, Secretary of USK Gambia. “Clause 32 specifically encourages us to work with other charitable organizations, educational institutions, and governmental bodies to multiply our impact.”
This collaborative spirit has already led to several promising partnerships. We’ve begun conversations with local schools about supplementing their curriculum with yoga and meditation programs that help students manage stress and improve concentration. Local health clinics have shown interest in our holistic approaches to preventive healthcare that consider physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing.
Our disaster relief initiatives are being coordinated with existing emergency response networks to ensure resources reach those most in need without duplication of efforts. By pooling knowledge and resources, we can respond more effectively when crises occur.
Perhaps most importantly, we approach these collaborations with an attitude of service rather than competition. The Hindu concept of “seva” (selfless service) guides our interactions, reminding us that the ultimate goal is the wellbeing of those we serve, not organizational recognition.
“In Hindu philosophy, the left hand doesn’t need to know what the right hand is doing,” explains our community outreach coordinator. “What matters is that people are helped, communities are strengthened, and dignity is preserved.”
As USK Gambia continues to establish itself in the humanitarian landscape of The Gambia, we remain committed to this collaborative approach. By working together across organizational and cultural boundaries, we can create more holistic solutions to complex challenges, honoring both our spiritual foundations and our shared humanity.
