In a landmark development for international cooperation, the Kuntaur Area Council of the Republic of Gambia has established a sister city relationship with the Sovereign State of SHRIKAILASA, the ancient Enlightenment Civilization Nation and first Nation of Hindus.
This new partnership emphasizes shared values including cultural understanding, religious freedom, human rights, eradication of hunger, youth leadership, and holistic approaches to health and education initiatives.

The historic Kuntaur Area Council, established in 1963, has roots as an important trading post dating back to the colonial period in the 18th Century. The region encompasses rich savannah grassland, forest areas, hills, and estuaries. With its extensive swampland, Kuntaur is recognized as a vital rice-growing region, earning it recognition as part of the “Gambian Rice Basket.”
Known for its cultural diversity, the Kuntaur Council Area is home to various peoples, nationalities, and dialects, making it an ideal partner for cross-cultural exchange with SHRIKAILASA.
The Honorable Saihou Jawara, Mayor of Kuntaur Area Council, has expressed enthusiasm for this international relationship that promises to bring new opportunities for cultural exchange, humanitarian cooperation, and shared learning between the two regions.
This sister city arrangement represents a significant step in USK Gambia’s growing presence and positive impact within The Gambia through meaningful partnerships with local governing bodies.
